Duux dehumidifiers take excess moisture out of the air to help stop condensation, damp and mould before they take hold. Choose from the compact Bora 12L for bedrooms and small flats, or the Bora Smart 20L and 30L for larger homes, with app control and a laundry mode that dries clothes indoors. All three are quiet, energy efficient and easy to move between rooms.
How to choose the right dehumidifier
The right dehumidifier depends on the size of the space, how damp it is, and whether you want to dry laundry indoors. Healthy indoor humidity sits between 40% and 60%. Above that, you're more likely to see condensation on windows, a musty smell and black mould around frames and corners.
What size dehumidifier do I need?
Dehumidifiers are rated by how much water they can remove in a day. As a guide:
- Bora 12L: up to 12 litres a day, for spaces up to around 30m², such as a bedroom, home office or small flat.
- Bora Smart 20L: up to 20 litres a day, for spaces up to around 40m², such as a two to three bedroom home or a room with regular condensation.
- Bora Smart 30L: up to 30 litres a day, for spaces up to around 50m², such as larger homes, very damp rooms, basements or drying a lot of laundry.
If you're between two sizes, go for the larger one. It will reach your target humidity faster and then run on a lower setting, which keeps it quieter.
Drying laundry indoors
Drying clothes on a radiator or airer adds a lot of moisture to a room. All three Bora models have a laundry mode that speeds up drying and removes that moisture at the same time. Put the dehumidifier in a smaller room with the door closed and the clothes spaced out on an airer for the best results. It costs far less to run than a tumble dryer and is gentler on fabrics.
Water tank and continuous drainage
The Bora 12L has a 1.7 litre tank, and the Bora Smart 20L and 30L have a 4 litre tank. All three switch off automatically when the tank is full. For damp spaces like cellars or garages, connect a hose for continuous drainage so you never need to empty the tank.
Noise levels
The Bora Smart 20L and 30L are Quiet Mark certified, running from 36dB in night mode, so they're suitable for bedrooms and living spaces. The Bora 12L runs from 42dB and also has a night mode.
Smart features
The Bora Smart 20L and 30L connect to the Duux app, so you can check humidity, set schedules and switch modes from your phone. They also work with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. The Bora 12L uses a simple touch panel for anyone who doesn't need app control.
Running costs
Duux dehumidifiers use an automatic humidistat. Set your target humidity (between 30% and 80%) and the dehumidifier switches on and off to hold it, rather than running all day. Each model uses 0.9W on standby. The Bora Smart 30L costs around 8p an hour on its highest setting, and much less once the room has dried out.
Where to put your dehumidifier
For the best results:
- Place it in the dampest room, or centrally in the home or on a landing to treat several rooms.
- Leave at least 20cm of space around the air inlet and outlet.
- Keep windows and doors closed while it runs.
- Move it between rooms as needed. All three models have wheels and a handle.
Filters and care
Each Bora dehumidifier includes an activated carbon filter that helps reduce odours and smoke. Replace it roughly every 12 months, and clean the dust filter regularly to keep the dehumidifier working efficiently. Replacement filters are available in our dehumidifier range.
Frequently asked questions
What size dehumidifier do I need?
For a bedroom or small flat up to 30m², the Bora 12L is ideal. For a typical family home up to 40m², choose the Bora Smart 20L. For larger or very damp homes up to 50m², or if you dry a lot of laundry, choose the Bora Smart 30L.
Can a dehumidifier help with mould?
Yes. Mould grows when humidity stays high. Keeping your home between 40% and 60% humidity helps stop condensation and makes it much harder for mould to form. Existing mould should be cleaned off first.
Can I dry clothes with a Duux dehumidifier?
Yes. All Bora models have a laundry mode that dries clothes indoors faster than air drying, and for far less than a tumble dryer costs to run.
How much does a dehumidifier cost to run?
The Bora Smart 30L costs around 8p an hour on its highest setting. The built-in humidistat switches the dehumidifier on and off to hold your chosen humidity, so it rarely runs at full power all day.
Are Duux dehumidifiers noisy?
No. The Bora Smart 20L and 30L are Quiet Mark certified and run from 36dB in night mode, so they're suitable for bedrooms.
Can I drain the water without emptying the tank?
Yes. All Bora models support continuous drainage through a hose, which is useful in cellars, garages and utility rooms.
Where is the best place to put a dehumidifier?
Put it in the dampest room with the doors and windows closed, and leave space around the air vents. To treat a whole home, place it centrally, such as on a landing.
