The Science of Airflow: How Duux Use Research to Build a Better Fan

Duux Whisper fans really live up to the name, with sound levels as low as just 13dB, they are quieter than a whisper. What’s more, despite the ultra-quiet operation, we have been able to generate incredible cooling power from our fans and reduce energy consumption. While this may not seem possible, we are able to achieve this through in-depth research into airflow.

What Is Airflow?

Airflow is how air moves from one place to another, usually because of differences in pressure. Airflow is very important for fans because it affects air circulation, cooling and comfort.

Smarter Fan Design with CFD

To better understand airflow, we collaborated with Aerows Engineering who run special computerised tests, called Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to test and improve performance. CFD helps engineers see how air flows through and around a fan which lets them fine-tune the design for better performance.

More Air, Less Noise

With the insights we get from CFD, we can make small but powerful changes to the fan blades and housing:

  • Better Airflow: Adjusting the shape and angle of blades to help move more air with less energy.
  • Less Noise: Optimising the structure of the fans helps to reduce sound, making them incredibly quiet, especially at lower speeds.

Quieter Operation with Acoustic Analysis

We also work with Sorama, a Dutch expert in sound technology, to reduce the noise level of our fans. By working with Sorama we can:

  • See Sound Waves: Advanced technology is used to show us how sound waves interact with the different parts of the fan.
  • Make Fans Quieter: These visualisations help us to identify noisy areas and reduce unwanted sounds.

Energy-Efficient Cooling

Duux fans are designed to use less power while keeping you cool. The improved airflow and lower noise levels mean that the fans work more effectively at lower power settings, saving energy and reducing running costs while still delivering incredible performance.

Fan Performance Triangle

When choosing a fan, most people focus on three main factors: how noisy it is, how powerful it is, and how much it costs to run. Our goal is to balance all three without sacrificing performance. Adjusting one factor can affect the others, but our expert engineers make sure that each element is fine-tuned for the best overall experience.

Extra Features That Deliver a Better Experience

As well as the work we put in to the performance of the fan, we also include quality of life features that help improve comfort and create a peaceful environment, especially at night:

  • Night Mode: This mode runs the fan quietly and turns off bright lights from the display to help you sleep.
  • Precise Speed Control: Whereas most fans only have 3 to 5 speed settings, Duux Whisper fans let you adjust airflow to your exact preference, with between 26 and 30 speed settings.
  • Horizontal and Vertical Movement: Duux fans not only oscillate from side-to-side, the fan head also moves up and down, delivering powerful cooling to every corner of the room.16 dxcf27 whisper 2 wind reach

Why Duux Fans Stand Out

Our ongoing partnerships with top engineers help us to keep improving fan technology. Each generation of fan builds on what was great about the previous model and brings improved performance and better features. The process we use includes:

  • Testing & Prototyping: Prototypes are developed which are carefully tested. This gives us insights that help us to create an improved version for re-testing and further improvements.
  • Constant Upgrades: We always look for ways to improve our fans by using the latest technology to test, update and enhance products.

Our dedication to research and development has allowed us to create fans with incredible performance. The work we do with our expert partners has enabled us to innovate, reducing noise and energy consumption while increasing power. By mastering the science of airflow, we continue to lead the way in air treatment solutions.

Don’t Let the Cold Cut Your Evening Short: Why Duux Heated Cushions Are the Smartest Way to Stay Outside Longer

There’s a particular kind of disappointment that comes with a British summer evening. The sun’s still up, the garden’s finally warm, and then, right around 8pm, the temperature drops, someone shivers, and the whole group drifts back indoors. The evening that could have run until midnight is over by nine. The usual fixes for this […]

Why Summer Is the Best Time to Buy a Dehumidifier

Hot weather doesn’t just bring sunshine; it brings humidity. As temperatures climb, the air holds onto far more moisture, and that moisture ends up in your home: sticky, stuffy rooms that feel warmer than they are, windows that steam up overnight, and that unmistakable damp, musty smell creeping into bathrooms and bedrooms. Add in sudden […]
